Looking for your perfect get-a-way? Look no further. Our Secret Garden is in the heart of the Scottish Borders, one of the most beautiful areas in Scotland. Whether you want a relaxing break, participate in fishing, horse riding, cycling or walking, the Scottish Borders offers world class facilities to suit all.

Our Secret Garden lodge is set in the grounds of our award winning B&B Whitehouse Country House. Pass by the back of the house and hidden away in a stunning location and exceptionally well equipped is Secret Garden. With its private enclosed garden and carpark, the lodge has its own hot tub (4 persons) two outdoor seating areas and Barbecue.

Inside is a comfy open plan living space with large sofas , dining table and smart tv with access to the decking area with table and chairs for outdoor meals. A double ( which can be split into two smaller beds for the children) and a king size bedroom. The King has an en suite toilet. The lodge also boasts a spacious shower room with a shower seat and power shower. Secret garden is suitable for both small families and couples looking for a relaxing getaway.

Members of green tourisim, sustainability is very important to us. We have solar panels supplying some (not all) of the electricity, and an EV car charger for those with electric cars (there is a charge for this service). In the garden you will find flower boxes made from the next door farms “Tattie “ boxes.  Local brewery Tempest (craft ales) is well worth a visit, Tempest are based in Tweedbank, nr Melrose. We have four of Tempest’s barrells as flower planters and also acting as solar light stands. In addition the lower seating area, the chairs and table are made from local pallets. The location is ideal for exploring Central Borders with its individual towns and villages, Castles and Keeps. Day trips to Edinburgh and the Northumberland coast.

Lodge Rooms

Secret Garden Lodge has a living area with integrated dining and kitchen. There are 2 bedrooms, one with the master suite having a kingsize bed and ensuite toilet and sink. Bedroom 2 has a double bed (4′ 6″) which can be made into 2 x twin beds. There is a bathroom with a large shower area including complimentary towels, bathrobes, toiletries and linen.

There is free private parking (2 cars) available within the grounds of the lodge.

Bedroom Comforts

High quality bed linen, robes, additional pillows and central heating ensures your comfortable. In addition, the main bedroom has a TV.

Enclosed Private Garden

Our enclosed garden ensures privacy and security. Loungers / Recliners are available by the hot tub with a further seating for 4 in the lower garden.

Dogs

We are a dog friendly family and welcome up to 2 dogs per visit. An additional fee of £25 is required for their stay.

EV Charging Point
If you require a charger for your car, we have one available for you. This is a chargeable service.
Computer Station

There is plenty space to set up a laptop or computing device within the lodge. A variety of power outlets and good Wi-Fi allow for most computer tasks to be carried out.

Hot Tub

Secret Garden Lodge has a hot tub which can be turned on in advance. When booking, please ask for this to be available for your visit. It seats 4 adults comfortably.

BBQ

There is a BBQ that can be used throughout your stay. This is a charcoal BBQ and we can supply fuel for a small fee if required. Alternatively you can bring your own.

Checkin & Checkout

Check-in from 3pm and check-out by 10am.

Cancellation Policy

There is a non-refundable deposit on bookings. Balance to be paid 2 months before arrival. Further information on the cancellation policy can be provided. Please contact us to find out more.

Based in the heart of the Scottish Borders, you don’t need to travel too far for our wonderful local attractions and activities. Whether you are looking for a chilled and relaxing break or a fun packed adventure, we have it all.

Eating out or In

From a couple of very good Bistros in the village of St. Boswells to a huge selection of bars, restaurants in every town and village in the Borders. From a cup of coffee to fine dining.

Sight Seeing

The Scottish Borders is the perfect destination to enjoy the great outdoors and Whitehouse is ideally placed for you to access its many varied attractions. From rolling hills and moorland to spectacular cliffs and beaches, historic towns and picturesque villages, tranquil rivers flowing through rolling farmland, this beautiful land with its tempestuous and romantic history offers something for everyone.

Take advantage of the many outdoor pursuits in the Borders: walking, fishing, golf, riding, cycling or mountain biking. For the spectator there’s rugby, horse racing and many special events.

Explore castles and great country houses, abbeys and historical sites. Browse museums and galleries, gardens and wildlife parks. Enjoy concerts, theatre and cinema. Or simply savour the unhurried life of the Borders, its restaurants and cafes, its textiles and crafts.

At Whitehouse we are always happy to advise on the many attractions, activities and amenities in the Borders and can offer specialist services such as secure storage, drying facilities, marked route maps.

From September 2015 the new Borders railway is operational. Trains travel to Edinburgh and cycle facilities are available at stations and on the trains. It is also possible to travel on this scenic route on a steam train. Please ask us for more information.

Walking & Biking

The Scottish Borders is a walkers and cyclists haven, with the longer routes of St. Cuthberts walking way, Borders Abbey cycling route and the world class Glentress mountain biking centre. (waiting on a link or list with other route details etc)

Day Trips

Edinburgh via train from Tweedbank, 6 miles away and a scenic 1 hour train ride. Northumberland coast an hour away , with St Abbs marine reserve, Lindisfarne with its tidal causeway , Seahouses with day boat trips to the Farne islands, Bamburgh Castle and beach. Alnwick Castle and gadens. Plus so much more.

Fishing

The River Tweed has always been internationally famous for its salmon fishing, with people coming from all over the world to fish it. It ranks among the very top salmon rivers in the world. Brown trout and sea trout fishing are also excellent.

Situated just 0.5miles/800metres from the River Tweed, Whitehouse is the first choice for a few days fishing. Both Roger and Angela are enthusiastic fishing hosts and with local knowledge can really enhance your fishing experience.
